It’s certainly clear to see that damp proofing is not an important part of the constructions project; it still plays a very important role. New build properties will, have a physical separation covering around 150mm above external ground level - a damp proof course.
This would stop capillary movement of damp growing higher than the barrier and successfully damp proofs the possessions above this barrier. Once you realize that the building has no earth bridging above the damp proof course and no gutters or flashing or no leaking pipes, and then you’re damp basement is good enough.
A physical membrane as a vertical separation layer structure is normal in all brick and block work construction. Properties that are aged or old and are made out of stone or rubble faces challenges for damp proofing. Most times it’s a matter of individual liking which is going to go with each ones purpose.
